Dolmen

Strange but true. In Sardinia there are Dolmen which are also found in northern Europe, the island variety smaller but no less fascinating. In Dorgali and Cala Gonone, there are several of the most characteristic Dolmen on the island, such as Motorra and Monte Longu:

Motorra
This tomb is made up of eight stones laid on edge, secured in the ground and surmounted by a huge basalt slab. It is in good condition and can be seen along the road which also leads to the grottos of Ispinigoli, a few kilometres away. Access is via the main East coast road (SS 125) heading towards Orosei.

Monte Longhu

One of the most distinctive Dolmen on Sardinia, thanks to the limestone used for its construction. The white is genuinely dazzling, producing wonderful colours at sunset. It is made up of three great slabs standing erect on the slopes of the mountain.
