An excursion into the supramonte of orgosolo is a must for those who want to come in contact with the traditions of the island. Starting from cala gonone/Dorgali, you drive to orgosolo. From here, you proceed to the national forest of “montes” (as only authorized vehicles are admitted, it is necessary to make an application for entry at the national forestry commission office the day before).

You travel through the woodlands of funtana bona and monte novo san giovanni at a height of 1,316 metres and come upon the characteristic shepfolds of the local shepherds amidst a landscape that ranks among the most interesting and best-preserved of the whole island.

you can enjoy a typical shepherds’lunch based on mutton and pigling in the shadow of a holm oak grove.
