The sea ox cave was opened to the public in 1952 and since then, it has been one of the most interesting sights in the territory of dorgali; in 1983, the new branch (the southern branch) was opened and contemporaneously the northern branch was closed to the public. Today - 25 years later -, after the completion of the maintenance works of the walkways and installation of the new illumination, this extraordinary sector of the cave is accessible again.

The “alternative” route begins in Cala Gonone and leads to the nearby beach of Cala Fuili. If you want to get to the cave by the overland route, you can reach it starting from here after a short walk (about 40 minutes). when you arrive at the “scala di ferro” (iron staircase) that grants access to the northern branch, the visit of the cave begins.

The route includes the visit of the northern and southern branch as well, and a halt for viewing the “anthropomorphic graffiti”, which were carved into the rock by stone age men 4,800 years ago.
